Welcome and Happy New Year – by Peter

Happy New Year from all the staff and members of the Seasons Project. I hope to continue to come as I am getting support and I enjoy coming to the group as I get less anxious than when I am on my own. It comes in handy as its only a 10 to15 minute walk from my house and the staff make me feel welcome and are really nice. Hopefully I will continue to come and feel happy and contented in the place. I think people get a lot out of coming to the project. We play games, quizzes and people learn how to cook and take part in walking and other social outings. We go to the zoo and outings to the Cinema and Portobello Beach (in the Summertime when the weather is better than it is at this time of year). The staff make you feel welcome and they look out for you. I think it is beneficial for people to come to Seasons and I feel there is a good atmosphere when we go on outings together.

At Christmas time we had a really good time. We had a Christmas Party and a lunch. Then we had a buffet and Karaoke. That’s why I really enjoy coming to Seasons. I think everyone enjoyed their Christmas at Seasons. Hopefully I will still be coming to Seasons this time next year.

What we are all about…by Alistair McIntyre

SEASONS is a mental health charity that offers a few services. A couple of which are drop-ins and a one to one service that supports people to follow their interests, education and employment opportunities. We also have peer led outings such as fishing.

We started in 2004 and became a registered charity in 2007. We have a management committee that is made up of people who use the services we provide. We also take a lot of time finding out what people would like to happen during their time at SEASONS by consulting with the people who use the service.

As convenor of the management committee, I can not sing its praises high enough. It has been a great source of support for my self and many others. During my involvement in SEASONS I was supported as I wrote a biographical account of my experience of schizophrenia and mental health services which was published. You may be wondering how we came by the name SEASONS. Well, we felt it was better than North East Edinburgh Mental Health Services. After all, if you explore our site you’ll soon realise we offer a whole lot more than that title suggests…

We invited in Colin Will, a poet from East Lothian, who led a workshop to ask us what we felt we offered. And this is what we came up with – the name followed naturally – like the seasons.
